
Construction of a Modern Teaching Hospital

President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein, has said construction work for a new multi-billion-shilling modern teaching hospital at Binguni in Unguja South Region will commence soon.
President Shein announced that when he made a tour at the construction site, Binguni village in Unguja. He said the project work will take off with the construction of emergency services unit and the funds have been set aside. He said the project will be implemented from government funds and the work would implemented by a local constracting company whose good performance has been seen in other big government building projects. He added that he has already instructed the relevant ministries to start immediate preparations for the construction work to take off.
President Shein said the government was hesitant to start the construction work due to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic in many countries including Zanzibar. He commended development partners including businessmen to support government efforts in the fight against COVID-19 in the Isles.
He said that the newly coronavirus diagnosis machine purchased by local businessman, Rostam Aziz would be installed at either Mnazimmoja Referral Hospital or Wete District Hosital in the island of Pemba.
He thanked the public for observing all government preventive measures in fighting against coronavirus outbreak, saying that at any time the government would allow resumption of some development activities that were suspended because of the pandemic.
The construction of the new hospital will reduce congestion at the Mnazimmoja Referral Hospital. The new hospital will be constructed alongside Government Central Laboratory which is being built at the same site.
